This is one of the rare BTO 5 room, 1100 sq feet HDB in mature estate of Tampines and it belongs to a newly-wed couple in their 20s.
The project brief by owners is that the house need to be multi-functional for all stages in their lives and they wanted a guest room, kids room and they are contemplating to build a study room in their living room. At the same time they wanted the living area to be able to house guests for gatherings comfortably.
We suggested to keep one of the rooms as a study room which can also double up as guestroom and we preferred not to build an additional room in the living area as that will compromise the general space & proportions of the apartment.
The designer elaborated that the study room which was replaced by glass walls acts as a control center of the whole house and the user is able to watch the front door, living and dining room area while working.
A distinctive feature in the living room would be the L-shaped settee recreating the vision of bay windows. It can easily accommodate around 10 guests seating around it with a nook at the end that guests can place their bags in. This settee also doubles up as storages which can be useful especially for keeping toys of young children.
Another neat feature of this house is the arch entrance upon entering the house which hides the bomb shelter and triples up as a shoe cabinet and magazine rack.
Last but not least we loved the choice of herringbone tiles laid on the kitchen floor. It gives a homely & charming vibe and immediately spruced up the space!
It was an exciting journey to realize the dream home together with this lovely couple!
