25 Upper Weld Rd, Singapore
Modern Mid-Century
450,000
Located within a conserved shophouse along Upper Weld Road, Erstudio’s new office takes shape as Arc of Light, a spatial narrative that celebrates proportion, material, and illumination. Drawing inspiration from the timeless elegance of Roman architecture, the design reinterprets heritage through a modern lens, balancing restraint with a sculptural sense of grace.
The space opens to a dramatic arc ceiling that becomes the defining gesture of the ground level. This sweeping form accentuates the shophouse’s impressive height, creating a grand yet fluid sense of openness. Beneath it, the floor is finished in Florim large-format tiles, chosen for their smooth, refined texture that anchors the space in understated luxury. A palette of nude tones flows through the interior, creating a warm, calm, and inviting atmosphere that mirrors Erstudio’s modern-zen design ethos.
In contrast, the upper level retains its original timber flooring, a subtle yet powerful gesture that preserves the shophouse’s memory. The dialogue between the old and the new forms the emotional foundation of the project, where the heritage of the structure is honored while allowing contemporary design elements to shine.
At the heart of the plan lies a light-filled courtyard capped with a glass roof, flooding the interior with daylight and creating a visual connection between sky and ground. From this luminous core rises a sculptural spiral staircase, a striking architectural centerpiece visible from the façade to the rear of the office. More than a circulation element, the spiral is a sculptural statement, an emblem of movement, continuity, and the studio’s design philosophy of timeless flow.
Throughout the space, curated lighting and furniture selections weave mid-century accents into the modern framework. A long discussion table sits beneath the Vistosi Peggy light, its playful glass orbs casting a soft, elegant glow. Flos lights run along the façade, highlighting architectural rhythm and form, while Kartell and District 8 furniture introduce layers of character and refinement. These thoughtful touches give the space depth and personality while maintaining visual harmony.
Greenery is introduced as a gentle counterbalance to the architectural geometry. Lush plants soften edges, infusing the office with freshness and life. Natural light dances across curved surfaces and textured materials throughout the day, transforming the mood of the space from serene morning glow to evening intimacy.
Ultimately, Arc of Light is more than an office, it is a living expression of Erstudio’s belief in design as a dialogue between heritage and innovation. Every detail, from proportion to texture, has been considered to craft an environment that inspires creativity while respecting context. In this timeless setting, history and modernity converge seamlessly, illuminating the studio’s ongoing journey toward thoughtful, enduring design.
