To be a good interior designer, you need years of experience, meticulous knowledge of the industry and relevant contacts with sources. An interior designer’s office is literally a one-stop shop to all the other things and, people whom you are going to meet such as material vendors, contactors and labor when you decide to have renovation.
In a nutshell, we have to know these guidelines and, we always need to follow it. In this post, we are going to share a few interior design mistakes that everyone should avoid.
1.DON’T GO CRAZY WITH THE MATCHING
What do you do when you buy a beautiful new shirt? You try to find matching accessories with it. BUT the term ‘matching’ gets taken out of context pretty often these days. It means finding adequate contrast, but many people literally start purchasing matching accessories. So listen up! Green on green might sound beautiful, but it is not. Similarly, blue on blue and red on red color schemes also sound pretty dull. So the next time you go searching for ‘matching’ things, keep this point in mind; you need contrast like this image shows; not the same colors!
2. ODD IS THE NEW SYMMETRIC
Placing objects in odd numbers creates a more beautiful look. For example, three stools are always going to look better than two. Similarly, seven throw pillows on a chesterfield are always going to look better than four or six. You can even use a large number of objects to beat the countdown like in this image. Odd numbers may be asymmetric in theory but they do have a beautiful effect when arranged artfully in your interior designs!
3. GOING CRAZY WITH ACCESSORIZING
Sometimes, there is a fine line that you have to walk between ‘collecting’ something and becoming a Grade-A hoarder. We know that the impulse to buy beautiful baubles and trinkets can be hard to control – especially if you’re decorating your interior designs! But stop while you’re still ahead in the game! Too much accessorization can lead to extreme visual clutter and trust us; it is not going to do your space any favors! Instead, you can play with textures to create beautiful effects as shown in this image.
4. TOO MANY COLORS
When we are looking for contrasting color palates, we must be very careful. If not, when a blue on orange or on red or on back color scheme…this is going to look only unprofessional and extremely hideous and out of fashion.
Try to design by picking two colors; for instance, red and white, yellow and blue, grey and blue, etc. Like mahogany on oak brown will look absolutely fabulous.
5. SIMILAR HEIGHTS
When each and every object in your interior design is arranged at the same height – couch, chairs, artwork, etc. – then it is only going to make your space seem boring. So try to decorate with a variety of visuals. Play with the heights of objects to create interest in your interior designs. You can even vary the heights of your kitchen cabinets to create clever designs.
